paintings

I am inspired by the work of mark rothko, cezanne and turner. Where would artists be without their example? My favourite quote from rothko is 'art to me is an anecdote of the spirit'

Texture is part of the form in my work. Sometimes the physical nature of the paint, with its dribbles, scratches, scores and scars is the subject itself. Recently I have started to add gold coloured foil to accentuate this.

I most frequently paint from a remembered image, often from my local landscape in donegal. Like cezanne I paint the same mountain over and over again. I have been commissioned to paint more paintings of errigal than any other subject.

this is a huge triptych of mount errigal, lough altan and muckish, the 3 pictures below show more detail of the texture
